The smell of summer …………

My mum is a long-time fan of Revlon nail varnish and so is my grandma and now I have discovered this – it glides on and stays on and they do some great classic colours my mums favourite is “Cherries in the Snow” ……… this summer they have done a fabulous range of colours which are scented and they really do smell delicious.

They come in a wide range of colours so they suit everyone – from the most amazing green shade it’s almost aquamarine called Ocean Breeze which has that smell of the sea – to a more subtle Peach Smoothie which does smell of peaches and my favourite surprisingly Mad about Mango which is very mango scented – yes I did keep smelling my nails – it lasts for around three days but the colours are very intense.

I love looking in shops and also shopping but I also looking at how people has added décor to their shop or just used some simple decorations to make a real statement.

At the moment I have been backwards and forwards to my grandparents who live between Lytham and St.Annes which is the “posh side of Blackpool” for those in the know.

A hairdressers has just been taken over in St. Anne’s and it’s a young entrepreneur which has pleased me no end as it’s my passion via the Fashion Network to get advice to people taking this big plunge.

Not only has it pleased me seeing someone take this on and we have one less empty shop on the High Street but it was great to chat with her and her mum – her mum was covered in paint and it looked like her whole family was backing her efforts.

What caught my eye was her wallpaper on one wall in two panels and the use of three crystal chandeliers in the shop for lighting – she has taken a classically simple black and white theme and made the shop look amazing.

Just love these two panels of this black and white with a hint of grey panels which add some statement to the salon but in a clean cut way.

I loved how she has the chandelier in the window and it's framed by the bay inside

After years of cheap sunglasses I have now been and made two serious purchases of me and bought some decent glasses – the reason being I’m sick of being almost blinded by the sun and yet having some sunglasses on and also having headaches due to squinting in the sunshine etc

So I have been to see Ted and French Connection and bought some nice glasses which actually work and are not just dark coloured lenses – also let’s face it we all wear sunglasses all year round now it’s not they are just worn for a few weeks of the year.

Yes it’s coming up to that time of year when we all have to pack for holidays and work out what we are taking and what we need to buy so this week I have been looking round the shops read for my holidays and as it’s a relaxed holiday with my mum so no glam or glitz on this just easy clothing choices.

I do have meals out in the evening but the hotel is what you would describe as shabby chic and I’ve been going since I was a child – it’s a very quiet village everyone in bed by 10pm ! I love a crisp white shirt as it can make a pair of jeans acceptable for a meeting – but getting one which is tailored to fit is quite difficult on the High Street but the infamous Mrs.D my mother introduced me to TM Lewin which I had always thought as a men’s shop and just did suits etc but actually they have a women’s department and they usually have an excellent offer on which is three shirts for £75.00 and as most of the shirts normally retail around the £70.00 mark due to the cut and the quality of the tailoring and cotton this is great value and a great investment as your never stuck for a great work look – a crisp shirt with a black shirt or trousers is always smart.

As its summer I have just bought some of the three quarter length sleeve shirts which have a mass of detail.

Yes, take a beach towel – go and buy one and take it with you – don’t take one from the bathroom at home or one of your mums as they get messy, oily and by the end of the holiday need a good wash and trust me a lesson learnt whatever you spill on that nice fluffy one from home will not come out – plus beach towels have usually a velour finish which makes them better for lying on when your sunbathing on a bed or the sand.

I would suggest you pre-wash the towel before your trip so it helps with the absorbency.

Also if you have over packed at the end with all the souvenir trinkets it’s easier to ditch the towel than something else ……..

Yes, to get off on holiday you have to pack it all in a small case and it can’t budge or be over stuffed or be too heavy as the airlines are now taking a dim view on heavy cases – so think carefully and maybe get a case which doesn't weigh a ton when empty – the other year I discovered the trolley bags on wheels – they are much easier to pack and lighter ……
